How to Pick the Perfect Wedding Venue
An exciting part of planning a wedding is getting to pick the destination of your wedding and reception. Whether you go with a traditional wedding in a church or more exotic destination choices, there are countless options available to you and many variables to be considered before picking the first venue that jumps out to you.
Talk to a Wedding Planner
Wedding planners are professionals that know every facet of a wedding and how to provide venue options that are specific to your needs. When meeting with a wedding planner that you click with, don’t hold back when it comes to the vision you have for your wedding. The more your wedding planner knows about you and your personal tastes, the more they will be able to help you plan the wedding of your dreams.
Put Your Vision on Paper
Knowing the vision of your wedding is an important step in the beginning that will allow you, and anyone helping you, to make easier decisions during the planning process. Take your time and don’t rush through the process of creating your vision. You can write notes on a piece of paper or use an image-based platform like Pinterest to create an overall visual inspiration to use while planning.
Consider factors like number of guests, color theme, indoor vs. outdoor, if you want a photographer, types of entertainment, catering options, alcoholic beverage choices, the “feeling” of the event, how gifts will be handled, and location (local vs. destination).
Consider the Comfort of Your Guests
We know that you want to have all of your favorite people at your wedding. And they should be! When picking out a venue consider the overall experience of your visiting guests. Some may be local while others may be visiting from afar. Take into consideration their lodging situation and proximity to your venue. Will your guests be traveling from a hotel or from within town? Choosing a location that is easy for your guests to access will improve their chances of being able to make it!
Do you have guests with physical limitations? Consider ways to accommodate them. This can be especially challenging for some outdoor venues, but there are a number of creative ways to ensure that all the special people in your life can make it to your wedding comfortably.
Search Local Venues and Think Outside the Box
In whichever town or city you plan to have your wedding, start searching for available venues that will fit in line with your overall wedding vision. When starting, you can simply search online for “wedding venue” attached to the city where you are planning to get married. For most cities you’ll get a large list of available venues that have labeled themselves wedding or reception venues.
As you search around, start to get creative in the venues you search for. You may end up finding out that the perfect venue for your wedding isn’t listed as a “wedding venue.” Barns, hotel convention rooms, dance studios, festivals, warehouses, campsites, gyms, vintage shops, Airbnb, and theaters are all great places to look into that aren’t commonly listed as a wedding venue. Make sure that the owner of any venue is okay with you hosting a wedding and/or reception at their facility.
Make Your Wedding Your Own
At the end of the day, a wedding and reception is about the couple getting married. It’s about you and the new chapter you are embarking on together.
